For a Good Cause

Today was a good day. Check that. TODAY WAS A GREAT DAY! We can honestly say we are overwhelming day for us. In addition to donating money to a great cause (Juvenile Diabetes Celebrity Luncheon held at Burger Heaven in NYC), the people who hosted the event were even better. First, I must say, Bret Michaels (Poison & VH1's Rock Of Love), Rod Blagojevich (Former Politician) & (Bill) Goldberg (Former Atlanta Falcon, WCW &WWE World Champion) are complete and utter gentlemen in a class of their own.

We hope our donation towards Juvenile Diabetes is helpful in finding a cure. We also met former Yankee/Met Darryl Strawberry, Micheal Johnson (Olympic Gold Medalist), Sinbad, Al Roker, Joan Rivers & celebrity chef Curtis Stone (Hell's Kitchen).

Besides donating to the event, we made an additional donation towards Bret Michaels own charity towards Juvenile Diabetes (St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

Listen to the 'Pinfield in the Morning' Radio Show tomorrow morning WXRP 1019, Matt Pinfield will be conducting an on air interview with The Underground Clown's Frank Kozlowsky.

Damn it's cold outside. After mother nature punished us and gave us a limited spring/summer season, we now have to suffer on this 3rd Friday of October (not Friday the 3rd) with below normal temps! What can you do, you can only worry about things within your control. On to the next..

This year Halloween falls on a weekend...me and the UGC will be trick or treating...(guess the old school hip hop song that inspired that line), that's right will be out during this years Halloween parade in the village and we will need your help to promote The Underground Clown Clothing line. There's an ad on Craig'slist with full details, click here THE UGC Halloween Parade. To those who have never attended the NYC Halloween parade, it's an interesting event. This is where we believe people from all walks of life come out be themselves. I took the liberty of posting a few photos to help explain my theory. That's all for today. Don't forget to log on to our website TheUndergroundclowncom. Our fall collection will be in stores and on line soon!

The Buzz.....

Heard an interesting story yesterday. A young man walks by a store (LBJ jeans) and notices our t-shirt on display. The salesman told me this same person stood by the display window for approximately two minutes staring at the t-shirt as well as the other brands that were on display. He finally enters the store. "What is that red shirt with the clown on it" asks the young man, the salesman says "that's The Underground Clown, the newest t-shirt line." The salesman hands him a shirt, the
young man examines it. The salesman then shows him more products from The Underground
Clown
such as our Trucker hats and Fitted Hats made by New Era. The salesman gives him the proper sized t-shirt, the young man goes to the cashier, pays for his merchandise and leaves the store. "I forgot tell you they are Brooklyn Based T-shirt company, all of the merchandise is made right here on US soil." Looking at the salesman, the young man said "thank you" and walked out of the store. I asked the salesman if the young man was impressed knowing that the t-shirt he just purchased was made in the U.S., his reply was "No, he was not from this country." it might not have been important to the young man who made the purchase but to us it is. As a consumer we are told to "Buy American". Then when you do buy "American" after doing research, you find out that the item you purchased was in fact made in another country. Ever call you wireless service provider to solve a problem and you speak to someone in another country? Ironically, the company says it happens to be an American based company but outsources to another country. Whatever it takes to save money I guess but at least let the consumer know that you do have facilities out of the country for financial reasons. You will gain more respect like that.
Here at The Underground Clown, we believe in integrity. Therefore, if we choose to outsource to another country, we will let our consumers know. We believe in the "Buy American" campaign. Therefore, ALL of our products is made in America. On to the next...

Throughout NYC, you see our ad campaign, or what industry experts would call "wild postings".

You can find these wild postings at numerous locations such as Soho, Noho, East Village, Chelsea, etc..check out the photos of our wild postings featuring The Underground Clown Jester, models Kirk Ryan Mcfarland & Jennifer Tracy (they're both wearing The Underground Clown "Turn Me On" *).

Lastly, The Brooklyn Harley Davidson Chapter held it's 3rd annual RIDE 2 LIVE, Bike run to benefit the Brooklyn Breast Cancer Program at Maimomides Cancer Center on October 10th 2009,. We donated money dedicated to the name of Corey "face" Pelzer towards breast cancer research with hopes of finding a cure for this disease. Our brand is dedicated to donating profits from our sales in honor of Corey's name to various charities.

The Underground Clown - THE UGC

The Underground Clown Tee-shirt brand was established in 2009 in Coney Island, New York. America’s original playground. It was the brainchild of Coney Island native, Frank Kozlowsky, a collision shop owner in Coney Island who specializes in customizing cars. While customizing his car one day, he wanted to place an image on his car that represents the collision shop as well as depicting his personality. He thought of a sinister clown, similar to Pennywise fromStephen King’s IT or Captain Spaulding from Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. In his research for an image, he wanted to implement the characteristics of his zodiac sign, Gemini. Like the clown, those born under the tropical zodiac (sun), are youthful, lively and at times they can be superficial, elusive, complex and dual natured. Like clowns, life is a game and they have to be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment, free of labor & routine. The clown’s hat also outlines Frank’s persona. The purple side represents wealth & gratitude healing. The orange side represents his kinship.

Why a clown? Honestly, skulls are everywhere. Tigers and other dominant animals are everywhere. Clown’s are often portrayed as emotionally unstable or even psychotic. Many people in today’s society have a love/hate relationship with clowns. A majority of people find clowns a bit unsettling, scary enough to trigger anxiety and other phobic reactions. During medieval times, the clown was the King’s jester. He mocked authority and ridiculed the establishment. Anything accepted as a whole as common knowledge was material for the jester’s ridicule. The jester was the only one who dared talk back to the king. As a matter of fact, that was his purpose, to think outside of the box, abandon reason and for this, his ideas were often incorporated into official policy. However, such insolence had better be funny or the jester would be punished via execution. That of course is not the goal of The Underground Clown.

Recently Frank went through a tough time in his life. Losing loved ones as well as his own health problems. Frank visited numerous doctors, some of them were highly recommended. None of them could diagnose what was ailing Frank. Fed up with the mystery ailment, Frank decided he the best way to heal his pain was to seek spiritual help. After observing the beliefs of Buddhism (but not a practicing Buddhist), getting reacquainted with his own religion (catholic) attending mass every Sunday, numerous events sponsored by the local church (Our Lady Of Solace), his ailments slowly began to diminish. In Buddhism, nirvana is the supreme state free from suffering and individual existence. It is a state Buddhists refer to as "Enlightenment". It is the ultimate goal of all Buddhists. The attainment of nirvana breaks the otherwise endless rebirth cycle of reincarnation. Buddhists also consider nirvana as freedom from all worldly concerns such as greed, hate, and ignorance. Ironically, Nirvana is one of Frank’s favorite groups. He often speaks about how much of a genius Kurt Cobain was musically.

Frank’s resilience inspired him to launch and finance The Underground Clown®. With the help of long time friend Craig Mills (Coney Island Native), their ideas for tee shirt designs will help propel this brand to new horizons. This brand wants to and will grow, allowing our customers to provide input on future ideas for shirts and other apparel. Proceeds will be donated annually in the name of Mr. Cory “Face” Pelzer . A son, little brother, gentleman and a dear friend, to numerous charities, funds and causes world wide for a better world and to add a little bit of light to a world that is sometimes viewed as dark.
